Aloha,
An activities book suggestes using "hexane" as a solvent to determine
the percentage of fat in a food item such as milk or meat. I'm
guessing that hexane is not a safe solvent to use in a lab that is not
equiped with a hood or proper waste disposal. Does anyone know of a
safe and inexpensive alternative to hexane? If hexane is safe and
inexpensive, where can it be obtained?
Thanks
