Subject: rising up to meet the sky

Dear Pinholers,
So, I was at the beach the other day with a friend. As we romantically
stared out into the ocean she asked me, "why does it look like the ocean
rises up to meet the sky (or- why does the horizon line look as if it has a
higher elevation than sea level)? I said, "I'll get back to you on that
one?"
