Amy,
Some thoughts on l.d. kids in a science lab. You should have a special
ed teacher to collaborate with and you are required to have the most
recent IEP. This should help you know what to expect by way of skills.
These kids often are different rather than disabled. They may be very
good at art or music and sometimes even multi-media computers and
science. It helps to pair them with a student who can read and write
easily (and has some "ability awareness").

Plan lessons with multi-level goals. ALL students will .....MOST
students will ...... SOME students will .......

Ask for audio tapes of the textbooks. New texts come with them
automatically.

Allow students to do alternative assignments -- draw pictures or
demonstrate rather than writing an essay.

If note taking is important, have an outline for the special ed students
to use as a guide.

Use multi-media and dramatic demonstration to get and keep attention.

Most important -- keep a sense of humor.
