Hi Pinholers
Here is another take off on the exploding Gummy Bears. Red Hots are mostly
sugar and they react vigorously with melted sodium chlorate. Place about 15
grams of sodium chlorate in a large test tube and heat with a vigorous burner
flame until it is melted. CAREFULLY drop the Red Hots one at a time into the
molten sodium chlorate and stand back! The Red Hot will burn brightly.
Do NOT use potassium chlorate, because it melts at a much higher temperature
than the sodium salt.
