St. Ignatius College Prep
Announcement of Teaching Position

This is to announce that St. Ignatius College Prep in San Francisco will
have one full-time opening for a physics/chemistry teacher beginning in
Fall 1999. The school is a private, co-ed, college-preparatory institution
located in the Sunset District of San Francisco, just off
Sunset Blvd. at Quintara. As a member of the faculty, I can attest to the
fact that the school is exceptional in terms of academics, student
behavior, physical facilities, and the way faculty are treated and
supported. It is literally a totally different world from the
stereotypical images of inner-city public education. This is a place where
the facilities are immaculate, and the students get detention for things
like not having their shirts tucked in! The pay scale compares favorably
to the SF public schools. (In my third year here I am making what would
take 10 years to reach in the SF Unified School District.) In short, it is
a wonderful problem-free place to work.

Both the physics and chemistry courses will involve teaching a
college-preparatory curriculum which emphasizes rigorous quantitative
problem solving and extensive laboratory work. Our regular physics course
is at the level of a college algebra/trig-based course, but at a slower
pace, covering fewer topics; we use Cutnell & Johnson as the text.
Candidates should have a strong background in physics or a related
field--preferably a degree that included the full calculus-based
introductory sequence--as well as college courses in chemistry. A teaching
credential is NOT required.

If you are interested, please email or phone me, and I would be happy
provide further information, be your host for a visit, etc.
