I asked the head of the San Francisco State biology department for advice on
how to study for the California biology credential, and he advised me to
read through their first-year biology textbook, by Campbell. Not only did it
enable to pass the Praxis exams easily, but was one of the most enjoyable
and informative readings I have ever done. It is full of colorful diagrams,
and seems very up-to-date. Using evolution as its key idea, it presents
biology as a far more unified subject than I remembered from high school and
college. It's a great way to prepare!
