Hi David,
Helium occurs in natural gas deposits as a result of alpha particle formation
from radioactive decay. Heliun boils at a much lower temperature than the
constituents of natural gas, so it is separated by fractional distillation of
the mixture. If you freeze the natural gas, only helium is left as a gas.
