Announcement of an Interesting Position

Project Coordinator
for an Astronomy Education Project

The Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP) has a
75%-time position available for an articulate, responsible person,
with an interest in K-12 education, to work with Project ASTRO
(a program that brings professional and amateur astronomers
into 4th through 9th grade classrooms.) The job would involve
being the Coordinator of Bay Area Project ASTRO and part of
a team developing Family ASTRO (a new national program to
bring astronomy to families outside of school.)

Job responsibilities include recruiting and selecting
teachers and astronomers for the project, coordinating an
annual workshop and follow-up activities, active fund-raising,
maintaining a budget, providing information by phone and
e-mail, editing an occasional newsletter, and working with
the project's national staff to plan and organize local
logistics for the new family initiative.

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree, a strong
command of written and spoken English, and at least two years'
experience coordinating educational programs. Familiarity with
computers and experience with fund-raising are highly desirable.
A background in astronomy is NOT necessary. The exact 30
hours worked during the week are somewhat flexible; a benefits
package is included.

For more information about Project ASTRO and the ASP,
see its web site at: www.aspsky.org.

Write or call (415-337-1100 x 100) for a more complete
job description and background information. The start date is
March 1, 2000. To apply, please send a resume, a cover letter
explaining your qualifications for and interest in the position,
and the names and contact information for 3 professional
references who are familiar with your work, to:
