Subject: coriolis on the equator

While studying weather and coriolis effect, my eighth grade students asked
an interesting question that I could not answer: If systems in the
northern hemisphere spin counter-clockwise and those in the southern
hemisphere spin clockwise, which way do they spin directly on the equator?
(I used water draining into a hole as my example of coriolis effect, and
I'm not sure this is accurate either...) Can anyone help us? Thanks!
