Subject: Save the Bay's summer institute

Hello Pinholers,
Happy new year. It's only January and we are already thinking about summer
programs. Your friends in TI hope to have our summer institute information
in the mail to you around the second week of February. Our friends at Save
the Bay already have their summer info ready for you. (see below)
Cheers,
Lori

Save The Bay's
Teacher Institutes 2000
Join us on a journey through San Francisco Bay's watershed, from the
foothills to the Bay. Along the way, discover how you can bring the
watershed to your classroom. The weeks are filled with on-the-water
experiences, expert speakers, and hands-on activities.

Gold Rush to the Golden Gate, June 25 - 30, 2000
Experience the San Francisco Bay-Delta and California's largest watershed
up close during Save The Bay's week-long Teacher Institute. Gold Rush to
the Golden Gate is an introduction to the cultural, political, and natural
history of San Francisco Bay's Watershed. Our trip will begin on the
American River and end at the Golden Gate Bridge, as we follow the
watershed from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada to the Pacific Ocean.

Trip Highlights Include: rafting on the American River, canoeing in fresh
and salt water marshes, exploring the Open Bay on a Research Boat from the
Shorebird Nature Center, sailing from the Bay Model in Sausalito under the
Golden Gate Bridge, participating in River of Words, a watershed poetry and
art program, and receiving a wealth of curriculum and resource materials.

Finding Our Roots in Restoration, July 9 - 14, 2000
This week is designed to delve deeper into the issues affecting San
Francisco Bay's Watershed. We will learn from California's past to create
a sustainable future for the Bay. A wealth of resource people will
introduce various action projects taking place throughout the Bay. The
journey from California's roots to the seeds we can plant for a restored
future will take place along the San Francisco Bay Watershed, from the
Mokelumne River to the Open Bay.

Trip Highlights Include: rafting on the Mokelumne River, canoeing along the
Cosumnes River, taking part in restoration projects in the Bay Area and
learning about community partnerships, paddling by moonlight at Arrowhead
Marsh, and designing a unit or project for your class using the San
Francisco Bay Watershed to address the State Content Standards.

The cost for each Institute is $150.00, which includes a nonrefundable
deposit of $50.00.
Two Continuing Education Units are available from Dominican College for an
additional $90, with submission of a paper.
Contact Amy Hutzel in our Education Department to register for the program,
