HI Jeff,
I have used styrofoam cups for calorimetry experiments for many years and I
have concluded that the heat energy absorbed by the cups is negligible and
certainly within the experimental error of the activity. For example, I have
used them to measure the enthalpy of formation of ammonium salts and the
students' results consistently fall within + or - 5% of the literature values.
