Subject: Job Announcement (Astronomical Society Of The Pacific)

Job Announcement:

Project Coordinator
for a National Family Science Initiative
at the
Astronomical Society of the Pacific

The Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP)
has an opening for a Project Coordinator to manage the
day-to-day operations of an exciting new program to
develop kits of family-oriented astronomy activities and
training workshops to help families use them effectively.
The project, funded by the National Science Foundation
for at least 4 years, continues and expands Project
ASTRO, which now operates in 11 sites around the
country. After the family program is tested in the San
Francisco Bay Area, it will expand to some of these
other sites as well.

The coordinator must have a background
in education and project management (but not
necessarily astronomy). Duties include overseeing
and organizing the development of the kits and
workshops; researching and keeping in touch with
other programs in family science; keeping budgets and
writing reports; coordinating schedules with project
scientists, educators, a Board of Advisors, and the
evaluation firm; and integrating the project with other
educational programs at the ASP. The coordinator will
be part of a creative team of science educators, both in
the San Francisco area and around the country.

Candidates should have at least a B.A. in education
or science, a minimum of 4 years' work in developing
and coordinating educational projects, significant
experience in keeping and monitoring budgets and doing
reports to funding agencies, a familiarity with both formal
and informal education (i.e. in and outside the classroom),
a willingness to travel, and the ability to work with and
supervise people with a variety of backgrounds. Some
experience writing grant proposals and working with
families is desirable. The person should be energetic,
articulate, and able to work well both as part of a team
and on independent projects.

For more information about the position, see
the fuller announcement on the ASP Web site, at:
www.aspsky.org/news/job2.html If you have additional
questions, or want to submit an application package
(with a resume, a cover letter, 2 writing samples,
and the names of 3 professional references), please
