It actually works the other way for a single additional rider.
When a rear rider drafts a lead rider the work done by the lead rider to
maintain the same speed decreases.
However the lead rider does more work than the following riders. If he or
she is riding with friendly riders they trade places and pull away from the
trailing groups. If he is riding with competitors they can refuse to take a
turn in front The lead rider gets some benefit from the followers but not
nearly as much as if the followers were to share in the lead work.
