Hi Everyone -- If you are not planning on attending a summer institute
at the Exploratorium this summer OR know of a beginning teacher in your
school who might be interested in this opportunity, please pass this
along...

SUBJECT: A paid, two-week professional development opportunity this
summer

Would you like to:
-explore sun-earth astronomy teaching resources?
-earn a $1000 stipend for two weeks of effort?
-have a "front row seat" for the June 21 total solar eclipse?
-interact collaboratively with professional astronomers?

INTERESTED? Please come to a planning meeting with potential
participants.
This meeting will help to frame the particulars of our NASA-funded
professional development opportunity being planned for June, 2001. Your

input is desired and needed! The planning meeting will be held:

WHEN: Friday, March 16, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., followed by optional
telescope
and IMAX film opportunities.
WHERE: The new Chabot Space and Science Center, 10000 Skyline Blvd.,
Oakland, CA. (See description and directions at
http://www.chabotspace.org.) Please use the front entrance and go to
the
Teacher Research Center.
ELIGIBILITY: First or second year teachers or student teachers who
include
astronomy in their curriculum. Program participants may be currently
enrolled in a teaching credential program or already have a credential.

Additional Incentives: free parking, free admission, free food and
beverages, free telescope viewing, and free tickets for the 7:30 viewing
of
the IMAX film "Solarmax."
