Again time for the Learning Studio weekly report.

Stephanie has been busy the past week adding lots of items to the collection.

Here are just a few of online resources she has catalogued:

Note:
The online works listed in these reports are freely available over the
Internet.
No passwords are required.

Almost all the online texts available through the Learning Studio catalog
can be located by doing a title keyword search for 'online resource'.

The current count of online resources is: 159

Some of these documents may be in PDF format and require the use of a free
reader.

 - Online journals:

1. EX: The Online World of Anime & Manga
In the 'oh what the heck' category I asked Stephanie to add one of te best
online magazines devoted to my favorite obsession, Japanese animation.

2. Journal of Insect Science
Publishes papers in all aspects of the biology of insects and other arthropods

3. Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report
An important news source from the Center for Disease Control, useful for
biology and public health issues.

4. World Wide Web Journal of Biology
All issues are available, started publishing in 1995

 - Online databases, dictionaries and glossaries:

5. Chinese-English Dictionary -
"Searches can be conducted by Chinese (using either the Big5, or GB
encodings), pinyin, or English. Results will show the Chinese word, the
pinyin representation of the word, and the English definition."
Note: Mac users should do a custom install for the Chinese Language kits
from the System CD-ROM disc that came with their computer.

6. Earthquake Glossary
Again the USGS provides us with another useful resource.

7. Genomics Lexicon
A searchable database of terms and definitions related to genetic medicine.

8. Japanese Ants Color Image Database
With 262 species of ants in Japan this resource has a lot of information in
one place.

9. UCMP Glossary
A glossary of biological terms created by the University of California
Museum of Paleontology
