you can negotiate with the school board.

A peer of mine came in with 20 years of military duty and was given full
credit in Emeryville.

During your employment interview, enquire as to the flexibility of setting
your year/experience pay beyond 8 years.

Not to complain, but many administrators negoitiate their pay above published
rates.
