Hi Geoff,
I have taught A.P. Chem for 18 years and I have found that a balance that
weighs to the nearest milligram (0.001 grams) is necessary. Nowadays, most
so-called balances are really strain gauges and not balances. Real balance
costs near $1,000 and a strain gauge with the same sensitivity is about
$450. You pays your money and takes your choice. Make sure the balance you
buy is secured to a bench top or always locked up when not in use.
