Hi Geoff and other Cow Eye fans,
At the museum, we get our cow eyes "fresh" from Elmer and Leah at Smith Meats in
San Francisco. You have to order them the Monday before the week that you need
them. The eyes cost around $2.25 each. (Prices may have gone up, so check when
you call.) You can pick them up on Tuesday (8 days after you order them.) Since
the eyes don't keep well, I recommend picking them up on the day you want to use
them, and Tuesday is better than Wednesday, Wednesday is better than Thursday,
etc., as the eyes begin to degenerate.
Elmer and Leah are there early, so you can get the eyes before school.
Call Smith Meats at (415) 626 6818. Smith Meats is located on Gilbert alley, off
Brannan between 6th and 7th Sts.
By the way, Smith Meats can also order "bio hearts" - fresh sheep hearts - for
dissection.
Good luck!
Cheers,
Lori
