Dear Paul -
With regards to how a snake moves -
One thing that kids often do (usually when out with their parents at a
restaurant and bored to death) is get a straw. Tear one end off the outer
paper wrapper and slide the wrapper down to the other end. If the other end
is placed on the table then the wrapper bunches up with a zillion folds.
They then dip the straw in some drink about hald a cm and cover the end with
their finger. This of course traps the fluid in the straw. Then they release
a drop right in the center of the folded paper. It twists and turns as it
unfolds.
Could this be an example?
