Dear Deborah,

I hope this does not come too late.

I would like to comment on the great benefit of
participating in the Pinhole list from another country,
Costa Rica. It must be part of this new world with reduced
geographical boundaries... even though other boundaries
remain, such as language, technology and more.

Following my first program at the Teacher Institute, I
registered and started receiving the Pinhole list. I
suscribed in Digest format to concentrate the reception and
opened a specific file to receive this email. This has been
very important since I can go back and check easily on
different subjects at my own time and pace.

To me Pinhole is like a club, where I can walk in and listen
to concerns and approaches from others interested in science
learning. Sometimes I have my own question to post.
Sometimes I have news to share, specially on resources in
Spanish. But mostly it feels like a meeting room where there
is confidence to ask the wildest questions, share ideas and
try out ways to explain and model phenomena. For those in
your area, it is also a bulletin for other proffessional
development or work opportunities.

This club makes me think of "learning in a community" or
"apprenticeship at a distance", like a Family of Musicians
where you learn music through direct contact, support and
seeing others struggle and continue. Those are ideal
situations for a continuing learning process that help
people approach new areas and incorporate some - not all- as
their own.

Finally, another feature that I treasure is the information
from the Learning Studio. Their searches of interesting
websites and other electronic materials has been very useful
because of their content and as models of leading trends in
this new information technology.

I wish we could create such a community in Spanish. Anyone
want to help?
