Subject: Teacher/Student Opportunity: GRA's "Ask-A-Groundwater Specialist" Program Answers Student's Questions

I recently met Susan Garcia at an Earth Science Alliance Meeting and just
learned of this great opportunity for students and teachers to send questions
to Groundwater Specialists. I thought some of you may be interested in this
opportunity as well so I am posting the information. Enjoy!

GRA's "Ask-A-Groundwater Specialist" Program Answers Student's Questions
Water resource questions from students and the general public can now be
answered by the Groundwater Resources Association of California (GRA)
"Ask-A-Groundwater Specialist" program. GRA is a non-profit organization,
which is dedicated to resource management that protects and improves
groundwater through education and technical leadership. One of GRA's goals is
to educate the public on groundwater issues and the importance of protecting
our water supplies. In the past our educational outreach activities have been
predominantly focused on our technical membership. As GRA's 10-year
anniversary passes and we look forward to the next ten years, we would like
to extend our educational outreach to the public, namely those individuals
who will be the future decision-makers of tomorrow, our youth. One small step
towards this end is to offer our technical expertise to schools by answering
questions that students may have on groundwater resources. Last Fall, we
embarked our "Ask-A-Groundwater Specialist" program, which is loosely modeled
after NASA's "Ask a Scientist" program. Students and the general public need
only to post their questions on our website (http://www.grac.org) and
responses will be provided by a Specialist within a few days. Our Specialists
are typically California Registered Geologists and Certified Hydrogeologists.
Since the program started, we have answered questions from K-16 students
located in CA, Oregon, Washington, Nigeria, and England. We are currently
trying to make educators aware of this free service, so they can inform their
students. If you have questions, please contact Susan Garcia, GRA Education
Chair at ssgarcia55@cs.com.
