Saw the same figures as Neil on the accumulation of plutonium. Note: Since Pu-239 is produced from U-238 in reactors, its supply is finite as well. (Natural abundance of U-235 was given as about 0.72% of total uranium, so it is rather inefficient to refine it, and it makes Pu-239 production much more appealing.) That Pt is rather pricey compared to lead is an understatement! But it might lead to an interesting line of questioning: What would a brick made of Pt cost vs. Pb? What would the masses of those bricks be? (Use "standard" building bricks as a comparison.)
