We often get email requests here at the E xploratorium for help with
obtaining free materials for classroom use. This one just came in
from Ohio and I knew this group would be a font of knowledge on this
topic.

Hello, I am a classroom mother who is helping a elementary school
>> teacher acquire bulletin board materials, pictures, posters etc. for use
>> in a classroom science center. Unfortunately, our school does not have
>> computers in the classroom; budget limitations frequently make it
>> necessary for individual teachers to supply basic needs in their rooms.
>> Luxuary items like science posters etc. are financially beyond their
>> reach. Could you give me some direction as to where I might be able to
>> obtain donated items for the classroom? Any assistance you could give
>> would be greatly appreciated. We are trying to create a colorful and
>> educational classroom enviroment for a group of children who would
>> otherwise have a very limited view of their world. Thank you for
>> considering my request.

I am aware of our Bay Area resources, but do you have ideas for Ohio
or how to find out about them?
I know that local public libraries' children's librarians are a help
as are publishers of children's books who often have lots of freebies
such as posters and bookmarks to give away.
Thanks,
Deb
