Hi pinholers,
A few people asked me about the "quickie" p and s wave demonstration/filler
I did on Saturday. I had people standing shoulder to shoulder as I pushed
on them simulating p and s-waves.
The "cool" John Lahr showed it to me one summer.
You can find this activity at:

I was also asked about p and s-wave velocities.
I found a simplified chart of p-wave velocity with depth at:
http://www.caosclub.org/members/earth16.html#chart.
They go about 5 to 7 km/s at the surface to almost 13.5 at depth.
As I vaguely recall, s-waves travel generally about ½ the speed.
