Question regarding braking on a vehicle. Is the frictional force that acts on the vehicle when it it being stopped greater when the tires are skidding or when the tires are slowing but still rolling. (i.e. will you stop in less distance if you skid or if you brake as hard as possible without skidding). A statement was made here earlier that the friction involved in rolling was less than that of sliding (in reference to the experiment with the lab carts). Thought I had this down; am now confused again. But it's okay -- it helps me to bond with my students! :-)
