They use spaghetti.
Other materials that work well are hot drink stirrers, drinking straws
(can be cut to desired length), tightly rolled paper coated lightly with
Elmer's glue
("paint" paper with Elmer's before rolling). Miniature marshmallows work
well as connectors. They harden around the "spans" after exposure to air.
