Hi Pinholers,
Looking for some Service Learning projects for your students or for yourself?
Here are some opportunities to plant native species in wetlands restoration
projects in the East Bay and in Palo Alto.
Cheers,
Lori

>Happy New Year! We hope that it was fun and relaxing for everyone. Here at
>Save The Bay we are gearing up for the planting season and we have 20,000
>native plants to get into the ground this winter!! This is a great time to
>come out and volunteer with our wetland restoration projects, especially if
>you have helped to do the hard work of removing non-natives and collecting
>native seed over the past year. Now is the time to see the fruits of your
>efforts and plant something in the ground instead of pulling it out!

>Winter restoration activities focus on planting natives that we have grown
>from seed collected on site, shoreline clean-ups, and water quality
>monitoring. This is part of our on-going native plant restoration project
>with East Bay Regional Park District and the Palo Alto Baylands Preserve.
>Gloves and tools are provided, dress in layers and bring a hat and water

>New Friday Drop-In Project Days
>Native Plant Nursery Volunteers Needed! Every Friday 1-4pm
>Save The Bay and East Bay Regional Park District have just established a
>native plant nursery area at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Regional Shoreline.
>We have been collecting seed and propagating native plants at local
>nurseries over the past two years, and now we can begin growing plants on
>site with the help of volunteers like you. Starting Friday, Jan 3rd we will
>have nursery drop-in volunteer days every Friday from 1-4pm, and activities
>include seed collection, plant propagation and transplanting, watering, and
>other maintenance associated with growing native wetland plants. This is a
>great opportunity to learn more about wetlands and native plant restoration,
>all abilities welcome and those with native plant/ nursery experience or
>interest are especially encouraged to get involved.

>For all projects we will still work in a light rain, but heavy rain will
>cancel. I will leave a message on my phone here at Save The Bay
>(510-452-9261 x109), so you can call in the morning that day and make sure
>that the project is still on. Please RSVP if you can, as it helps us with
>our project coordination and planning. Please contact Marilyn Latta at Save
