At the recent AAPT meeting I saw a neat idea for getting feedback from
students in large University lecture courses.(From Robert Erlich)
Each student is required to purchase a laser pointer at the begining of the
semester (Laser pointers can now be found for $1.75
http://members.aol.com/laserpointers/laser002.htm)
The professor shows an overhead with two boxes on it labelled true and false.
The students then point to the answer in response to a question.
The system is anonymous and allows the teacher to find out how the class is
understanding the topic or Not.
He also had the class sketch linear graphs using the laser pointers.
He noted that his research showed that there have been no confirmed cases
of eye damage (retinal scarring) due to laser pointers, yet.
