Hi Jeff

Older tape players work better since they were designed to deliver enough
power to operate "pre-super magnet" speakers.

Also any audio amplifier such as a boom box will provide plenty of power to
drive the speaker.

Or just put your CD player into a radio shack amplified speaker module.
they run about $12.
