Sorry about taking so long to reply. Yes. urea is used as fertilizer and is
manufactured from ammonia and carbon dioxide. The petroleum folks who make
ammonia by combining hydrogen gas with nitrogen gas (Haber Process) apply the
ammonia directly to crops, but any excess ammonia that cannot be sold is converted
to solid urea and sold in bags or bulk as fertilizer. Unfortunately, I do not
know of any handy use for urea in the classroom, at least not in large
amounts.
