pounds/ounces/tons etc. like their SI counterparts are actually units
of mass but are often used to describe weight since gravity is
basically constant anywhere on the earth. The unit for weight is the
Newton (m x g). Since mass is constant the old adage remains true but
with an addendum. "a pound is a pound the world around" including the
moon.

I'm not sure what the value of a pound note is on the moon but I'm sure
it would buy a lot of cheese.
