Al Sefl wonders if a device is a bolometer. According
to a few websites, a bolometer is a very sensitive way
to measure temperature using radiant heat on a
resistor.
Luckily he gives us a patent number, and the US Patent
Office has scans of nearly every patent. The 1932
patent is for a device to measure radiant heat through
the use of thermopiles, although the description never
mentions bolometers.
Check <http://patft.uspto.gov/netahtml/srchnum.htm>
and search for patent number 1891039.
