I've used this activity, found it really helps students understand contour
maps much better, as you can see just what the lines represent. I also
vastly prefer the foam core to clay or raw potatoes (also works in a pinch).
It is one of the activities in the FOSS Landforms kit and is also available
from Delta as a separate item.
