The IISME Education Manager is responsible for designing and
implementing certain educational services for IISME's teacher
professional development programs. This manager provides year-round
support for teachers (with a focus on science teachers) to help them
transfer their summer work and research experience into enrichment for
themselves, their students and the educational community. The Education
Manager reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the
Senior Education Manager.

JOB DESCRIPTION
 
POSITION: Education Manager
                                
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Education Manager is responsible for designing and implementing
certain educational services for IISME's teacher professional
development programs. This manager provides year-round support for
teachers (with a focus on science teachers) to help them transfer their
summer work and research experience into enrichment for themselves,
their students and the educational community. The Education Manager
reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Senior
Education Manager.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
 
* Minimum of 7-10 years experience in education including
significant time spent as a secondary classroom science teacher;
* Knowledge of and experience with Bay Area public
educational system and educators required;
* Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred; curriculum
development experience desired;
* Non-classroom work experience desired, preferably in
management and/or organizational development;
* Excellent oral and written communications, including
presentations;
* Demonstrated ability to lead and accomplish goals;
* Knowledge of current educational theory required.
 
DUTIES:
 
1. Provides input in the design and implementation of
IISME educational services;

2. Plans and implements, with the Senior Education
Manager, the Summer Fellowship Program, including implementing the
teacher recruitment process, providing teacher training and workshops,
orienting Teacher Fellows, arranging the content and logistics of summer
meetings, and expanding IISME website as appropriate to these
activities;

3. Co-staffs the IISME Board of Directors' Education
Committee which reviews education program and makes recommendations to
the Board and staff;

4. Oversees the transfer of science teachers' industry
and research experiences (Summer Fellowships and IISME-Future
Connections programs) into enhanced school curriculum, classroom
activity and career readiness, including monitoring the Educational
Transfer Plan process;

5. Measures IISME program impact on teachers and
students and shares responsibility for teacher data collection, program
evaluation and research;
 
6. Researches best practices among other Fellowship
programs and teacher professional development programs to inform
continuous quality improvement of IISME's programs;
 
7. Collaborates with senior staff to set policy and
future directions for IISME educational services;

8. Actively participates in devising new activities and
projects and in grant writing to fund them; monitors projects and writes
final reports to funders;
 
9. Develops new and effective linkages with schools of
education, district administrators, other teacher professional
development and pre-service programs;

10. Develops strong partnerships with other organizations
whose mission complements IISME, including but not limited to serving on
the boards of partner organizations;

11. Acts as advocate in the community at large for IISME
programs;

12. Obtains funding/sponsors for and arranges Future
Connections and Future Connections for Youth trips, including
identifying the hosts, facilitating the sessions and evaluating the
outcomes.
 
POSITION TERM, HOURS, LOCATION AND SALARY:
 
This position is full-time, exempt and will be located at the IISME
office at 5301 Stevens Creek Blvd., PO Box 58059; MS 55L-WO, Santa
Clara, California in Agilent Technologies, Building 50. This position
is subject to the policies and procedures listed in the IISME Personnel
Handbook. The Education Manager reports directly to the Executive
Director. Salary is competitive, based on qualifications and potential
