There's a simple way to make a microtome for each student. Use a 3/4 or 1
inch bolt with a nut. Screw the nut so that it is just on the end of the
bolt. You have a recessed area to pour wax. Place the sample (ex. stem ) in
the recessed area, pour melted wax and let harden. Now you can twist the
bolt and push out small sections on wax with the stem embedded. Slice off
with single edge razor and stain.
