Dream world: I'm independently wealthy and want to buy you, an avid amateur astronomer, a telescope. How does $1000 sound? Just let me know what scope I should purchase.

Reality: I have $1000 (surprisingly this is not part of the dream world) to spend on a new telescope for my school. I'll be using this telescope with 6th to 12th graders in a big city. Anyone have any strong opinions/suggestions?
