Subject: Free Physics and Music workshop

Please announce the following Physics and Music workshop, sponsored by the
Wright Center for Science Education and hosted by the Sonoma State University
Department of Physics and Astronomy:

The Physics and Music workshop will be held at Sonoma State University in
Rohnert Park, CA. The workshop will begin on the evening of Tuesday, June 21 and
conclude after lunch on Friday, June 24.

The workshop is designed for high school or college teachers of science or
physics who would like to supplement their curriculum with the physics of music.
Participants be presented with the following topics:
- A review of waves and sound
- The physics of musical sound and the design of the musical scale
- The physics of stringed instruments
- The physics of wind instruments
- The physics of percussion instruments
- Designing a musical instrument project for students

Participants will also have the opportunity to perform laboratory activities
related to the physics of music and musical instruments. In addition, at least
two simple musical instruments will be built by each participant. Many
curricular resources will be provided free to all attendees.

The workshop, including lodging in the dorms at Sonoma State University as
well as all meals, is offered free of charge. Participants are responsible for
transportation to and from the workshop.
