Hi Pinholers,
You can make a neat volcano by igniting ammonium dichromate
(NH4Cr2O7). The orange crystals turn into green mountain of chromium oxide.
Do this demo in a fume hood, because the oxide is toxic. The gas emmitted
during the reaction is nitrogen (harmless).
You can make a whizz-bang geyser by putting 50 ml of water and 50 ml of 30%
peroxide solution in a 2 liter plastic bottle. Add about 5 grams of manganese
dioxide and stand back! The geyser is just steam.

Good
Luck, Neil Fetter
