Subject: Computers in the Classroom

Pinhole:

Do you know any teachers in the bay area who have been using computer
technology successfully in their science classroom? If so, I would like to
get together with you or one of your minions so that I can get the
necessary information which will allow me to get in contact with these
teachers.

I'm in the process of trying to get the teachers in my department
interested in using this new technology by making arrangements for them to
see successful programs in their particular discipline, talk to teachers
who have made the technology work for them in their classrooms, and hear
what it takes to make it all possible.

I'm also trying to see if I can get money for them should they go and make
these visits - but that's a different kettle of fish.

One of our successful graduates came by and gave the science department a
presentation in which he told us that if we every got ourselves together on
how we would use this new tool in the classroom, we would find that there
are many companies who would be delighted to give us a hand by donating a
sizeable amount of money or equipment or both for our efforts - over an
extended period if necessary. He got my colleagues all worked up.
Unfortunately, none of them are familiar with what can be done in their
fields as far as this new technology is concerned and the work that we
physics teachers have been doing with computers at Lowell doesn't seem to
give them a clue at all as to what they might be able to do with similar
equipment.

When our chairperson looked around for volunteers,...

Any help you might be able to offer would be most appreciated.

Thanks

ron
