Pinholers,

I don't know a lot about the science of the Cassini mission but I do
know that an ex-NASA safety officer has joined the ranks of those who
are protesting the launch planned for October 6th. Even NASA has
admitted that there is a 1 in 1500 chance that the Titan booster rocket
could explode while in the atmosphere, thereby possibly releasing the
plutonium fuel into our atmosphere. I also believe that NASA has
planned for a slingshot around Venus and an approach near Earth again in
1999 at a velocity of 40,000 mph.

Sounds too risky to me. Why not solar?

There is a protest to stop Cassini on September 28th at Justin Herman
Plaza in San Francisco at 11:30 am. I have more info if anybody wants
it.
