Dear Pinholers:
Here is an interesting opportunity for math/science/technology teachers:

Job Description for Life Learning Academy Charter School

The Delancey Street Foundation invites applications for two full time teaching
positions at Life Learning Academy Charter School in San Francisco, CA.

Life Learning Academy is an exciting, innovative new charter school, developed
as a part of the juvenile justice reform for the City and County of San
Francisco. Life Learning Academy resembles a large, old-fashioned extended
family, in which students and faculty learn together as members of a school
and community. The Academy offers real opportunities for students - ages 14 to
18 - who have previously struggled in school, by providing a structured
environment with high expectations, rigorous, individualized and challenging
curriculum, and excellent, committed, multi-talented faculty.

Life Learning Academy students learn academic, vocational, social and
emotional skills through demanding, project-based activities, including:
renovation of their school (the YMCA in Tenderloin), development and
management of the YMCA cafÈ, health education, athletic training, computer
technology, conflict resolution and peer mentoring. Through these exciting
projects and opportunities for cooperative learning, faculty and students meet
high standards of academic, social, vocational, physical and emotional success
and well-being. As one member of the San Francisco Unified School District
Board of Education recently described, "Life Learning Academy is the most
exciting new program for young people we've seen in years."

Life Learning Academy has openings for two teachers with expertise in math /
computer technology, physical and life science. Applications are invited from
well-rounded, multicultural candidates with at least three years of teaching
experience, and interest and expertise in two or more of the following: cross-
cultural communication, strong management style, cooperative learning, high
standards, expertise in a core curricular subject area(s), and interest in
helping young people succeed in school and in life. Especially welcome are
teachers who have a passion for progressive social change; already have a
track record of activism and/or community service; and, will relish the
opportunity to help develop the curriculum, policies and structure of a new
school for young people. Priority will be given to teachers with multiple
areas of experience and interest, including athletics, visual and performing
arts, technology, multiple languages, community service, and
interdisciplinary, project-based instruction in academic, social and
vocational skills.

The Delancey Street Foundation is committed to equality of employment for
African-American, Latin-American and Asian-American teachers. Persons from
these backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter, resumÈ, and three letters of
