Imagine a school where each day is alive with creativity, diversity, and a
spirit of adventure. The Girls' Middle School is a new school for girls in
the sixth, seventh and eighth grades scheduled to open in September 1998 on
the San Francisco Peninsula, near Palo Alto. Designed as a model to prepare
girls for leadership roles in the next century, the school's innovative
curriculum will offer academic rigor and creativity. An emphasis on
hands-on math, science and technology will accompany a program rich in
language arts, Spanish, fine arts, performing arts, crafts, community
service, and sports. Attention to girls' emotional and social needs will be
integrated into the school day to help girls develop self-knowledge and
confidence as well as teamwork and leadership skills. A multi-cultural
curriculum and staff will welcome girls of all races, religions and ethnic
backgrounds. The Girls' Middle School will encourage girls to spread their
wings, take risks, and be self-reliant. We welcome your interest and
participation in the challenge of creating this exciting school.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Girls' Middle School is looking for exemplary teachers for a highly
rewarding and highly demanding opportunity. We are looking for passionate
and committed teachers who are willing to participate in an extraordinary
teaching opportunity: A chance to create integrated science, math, and
language arts curricula in an independent school which values
non-traditional education; to teach the first class of students that will
pioneer this new independent school; and to work closely with other
teachers in a team teaching setting. These positions may be full or
half-time and they will officially begin on July 1, 1998. It is expected
that during July and August teachers will develop and refine the academic
curriculum for the following year.

The Girls' Middle School will accept applications with all required
supporting documentation until the positions are filled. Early applications

QUALIFICATIONS

… Personal qualities of warmth and sensitivity and a willingness to attend
to the emotional and social needs of girls ages 11 through 14.
… Passion and creativity for teaching your subject matter.
… Experience teaching middle school.
… Proven ability to encourage, challenge and motivate girls.
… Good facilitation skills with an emphasis on positive problem solving and
conflict resolution.
… Experience with integrating technology in the classroom and using
technology as a learning tool.
… Experience with hands-on project-based teaching.
… Innovative approach to teaching including experience with/and ability to
measure learning and student knowledge without letter grades.
… Experience interacting constructively with parents in a professional capacity.
… Willingness and proven ability to work with a racial, ethnic and
economically diverse student body.
… Proven ability to work in teams and integrate subjects across a variety
of disciplines.
… BS or BA and demonstrated experience in subject matter; demonstration of
competency through graduate work, industry and/or teaching experience.
Teacher credential desirable, but not necessary.

COMPENSATION

Salary and benefits package are competitive with other independent schools
in the San Francisco Bay Area.
