Official Job Announcement: Science Education for Public Understanding
Program (SEPUP) Instructional Materials Developer
Start Date: Spring/Summer, 1998
Salary: Approximately $33,204-50,364 DOE

(curriculum sample preferred).

SEPUP is an instructional materials development group that produces
issue-oriented science materials for upper elementary, middle, and high
school. SEPUP is supported by funding from the National Science Foundation
and the private sector. We are adding two professional staff at the
Lawrence Hall of Science at the University of California at Berkeley. The
positions are funded annually with renewals based on performance and

Duties and responsibilities include:
Contribute to the development, publication, and revision of SEPUP
instructional materials, including two integrated science courses at the
high school and at the middle school level; contribute to the development
of assessment activities and strategies. Interact with field center
personnel in local and national field testing and revision of materials;
participate in SEPUP teacher and leadership training efforts; present SEPUP
materials at professional meetings and contribute in the preparation of
manuscripts for professional publication; contribute to the development of
proposals and preparation of reports to funding agencies; perform other
duties as required.

Qualifications include:
* B.S. degree in a natural science (higher degree preferred).
* Science teaching credential or equivalent.
* Classroom teaching experience in science, Grades 5-12.
* Proven writing ability required: experience writing pre-college science
curriculum materials strongly preferred.
* Computer literate, Mac preferred.
* Experience designing and conducting staff development programs.
* Record of scientific or educational publications desirable.
* Experience designing authentic assessment methods preferred.
