Hi,
1! is one but if 1! was the second term then 0! would be the first term.
There are number patterns that go 1, 1, etc. (the Fibonnacci sequence, for
example). I know, it's a little weird. However, if 0! were to be a
denominator and since you can't divide by 0, then 0! needs to be one . The
book Number Sense, Number Symbols by K. Menniger was recommended to me as a
resource. It looks like a reference that is worth checking out. I've had a
lot of input on this question, and I sure appreciate everyone's responses. I
know my students will also be appreciative of everyone's help and questions.
