According to the textbook I teach from, the transition
elements or d-block elements, are classified as metals
but have some varying properties. They tend to be
less reactive, harder & have higher melting points
than the groups 1 & 2 metals. (w/ the exception of
mercury) They differ in the number of valence
electrons & are filling the d- orbital which provides
for some of the irregularity. These are often the
ones that form ions of different charges. That's all
I can tell you!
