Subject: summer trip to the Galapagos

Hello Pinhole Enthusiasts,
I just got this information from the Marine Science Institute - about a
summer trip to the Galapagos Islands. Teachers and their families are
invited. Please read on:

DISCOVER THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS

Come discover the wilds of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands with the
Marine Science Institute! The tremendous natural beauty asks to be explored
again and again. This adventure has been created with the family in mind.
We will be utilizing the Marine Science Institute's educational philosophy
of hands-on learning to create a fun and exciting learning experience for
all. Children, ages 13 and up, are welcome to travel without their
parents. MSI's staff will be with the group while in Ecuador giving talks,
leading tours and being available to answer any questions that may arise.

July 12, 2001: We will be departing from San Francisco, CA for Quito,
Ecuador via
Miami on Thursday.
July 13, 2001: Day trip to Octavalo to visit the village and Indian market.
July 14 through July 21, 2001: We will start with a flight to the
Galapagos Islands. The week will be spent exploring the islands that
intrigued Charles Darwin and are known for their biodiversity. Travel,
meal and lodging accommodations while in the Galapagos will be on a charter
boat. We return to Quito on July 21st by plane.
July 22, 2001: We will return to San Francisco via Miami.

The itinerary in the Galapagos Islands varies, but we will visit a
combination of these islands: Plazas, North Seymour, Tower, James
(Santiago), Bartolome, Fernandina, Isabela Rabida, Santa Cruz, Espanola
(Hood) and Floreana Islands. Each island has its own unique highlights,
from the blowhole and albatross colony at Espanola, to the great snorkeling
and volcano hike on Bartolome, to the tidepools and fur seals on James, and
the giant tortoises on Santa Cruz. We will be travelling by small yacht,
which will give us more flexibility and time for shore excursions. Many
opportunities to photograph the wildlife and beautiful scenery will be
available. Because the creatures here have not learned a fear of humans you
will be able to get up close and personal with them. There will also be
ample time to snorkel in the pristine waters off the islands - so bring
your snorkel gear and cameras! This trip will allow you an unequaled
opportunity to learn about what Charles Darwin called "a little world
within itself".

The cost of the trip is $3000, which includes round-trip air from San
Francisco, CA; all meals on tours, hotels, boat in the Galapagos,
transportation in Ecuador, and tour guides. Not included are dinners on
7/13, beverages, $100 Galapagos Park entrance fee, $25 Ecuador departure
tax, personal expenses and tips. Upon receipt of the $700/person deposit
you will receive a confirmation letter and more conformation. Deposit minus
$50 will be refundable until May 12, 2001. For more information please
contact Marilou Seiff at the Marine Science Institute, (650) 364-2760 ext.
11 or FAX (650) 364-0416.
