Dear Teacher,

We are delighted to send to you this year's updated information about
the California State Summer School for Mathematics & Science (COSMOS)
for Summer 2002.

Three UC campuses, Davis, Irvine, and Santa Cruz, will again be
welcoming high school students who excel in mathematics and science to a
four-week residential summer program.

During the program, students have the opportunity to work with renowned
university faculty and researchers studying topics not traditionally
taught in high schools. Some of this year’s courses include: Astronomy,
Robotics, Cryptography, and Veterinary Medicine. The class size is
relatively small, providing an environment conducive to educating the
individual.

Detailed information is available at the COSMOS central web site:
www.ucop.edu/cosmos. Many need-based scholarships are available. No
qualified student will be denied admission for lack of financial
resources.

Please forward this email to others you think would be interested in the
program. Applications postmarked by March 15th will receive priority
consideration. We hope that you will encourage motivated high school
students completing 8th-12th grades this year to apply to COSMOS.

Please contact any of the campus coordinators to receive written
materials or to answer any questions.
