Subject: Stream Tables

Dear Heidi,
I've had kids make stream tables using big rectangular trays (I got mine from a restaurant supply store) and diatomaceous earth (from
pool supply stores; make sure to wet it down before the kids use it so they don't breathe it in, or you can just use sand). The Prentice
Hall Science Explorer series (6th grade textbook) has a really nice description of how to set up the experiment, including how to make a
dripper system, but I've also used water bottles with sports tops and had the kids drip very slowly. I suggest having kids do this project
outside if possible because it tends to get a little messy, but it is really a great experiment, and you can show lots of features caused by
water erosion.
