Hi Marti.

I don't know of any clubs specifically for Rube Goldberg types of competitions, but within the Science Olympiad competitions, there is an event referred to as "Mission Possible" which does have this sort of activity in it. Participants are to design a machine to accomplish a specific task within a given time frame with as many energy transfers as possible. Students score for the number of transfers, types of energy used (and explanations too, I think). Best of luck with this. Sounds like a lot of fun, and covers the real reason many of us got into science in the first place --- scientists play with the best/most toys of anyone!
