I've only seen movies of pillow lava from shallow depths (<100m) and steam
is definitely generated.
You're right that the boiling point increases as the pressure increases,
but lava temperatures are also pretty high. sometimes over 1000 °C.
Under the great pressures in the deep ocean this still isn't high enough to
boil water to make steam.
